Story Groups
Story Groups are planned, adult led sessions where the children will be working with others who are at a similar level in their literacy learning.
During these group times children will share a chosen set of stories and have small group discussion that have been carefully matched to their learning needs. These objectives may include learning intentions such as; encouraging children to focus and attend, recall and re-tell a story, develop sound letter recognition or rhyme and alliteration.
These Story Groups take place twice a day, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the end of a session i.e. 11.20am in the morning and 3.20pm in the afternoon. Each Story Group session will last for approximately fifteen to twenty minutes.
Your child’s Key Person should have already spoken with you about the Story Group that is most appropriate for your child and the types of learning that will be being planned for them. If you do have any queries or require more information about this initiative please arrange to talk to Denise, Jane or Emily in Blue Room
Island Times in Green and Blue Room are special times at the end of each session where children meet in their key Groups. This is a quiet time where we may share stories, sing songs, celebrate birthdays or talk about other important events in our community or individual lives. We also use them time to talk about what we may have been doing during the session and how we’d like to build on or extend this learning.
